This prayer to powerful Goddess Kamakhya grants fulfilment of the desires of the worshipper. Kamakhya devi is an important Tantric goddess who is closely identified with Kali and Maha Tripura Sundari. The Tantric texts (Kalikapurana Stotra, Yoginitantram) mention her worship at the Kamakhya temple, a 16th century temple in the Kamrup district of Assam which is one the 51 Shakti Peeths. She is one of the Dasha Mahavidyas, the Ten Great Wisdom Goddesses. She is both ferocious and benign, light and dark and thus she transcends and defies duality. She is Mahamaya, and takes on all forms of the Divine – thus any deity may be worshipped as a form of Her. She is extolled as the source of all creation, the one who sustains all living things, and the destructive, transformative force to which everything returns.
Devi Kamakhaya is known as the yielder of all desires. The temple is said to be the location where the yoni ("womb," or "source") of Sati is said to have fallen to earth. Within a corner of a cave in the temple, there is a sculptured idol of the Yoni, which is the object of reverence. A natural spring continually keeps the stone moist.
